Diane Abbott has become the first female to run for leader of the Labour Party in the upcoming leadership election. Ms Abbott MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington is running (surprisingly) on a platform talking about the sensitive issue of immigration.

Ed’s finally declared he’s gonna run for leader of the Labour party. Declaring he is to stand, Balls said “I’m going to put my name in for the Labour party leadership. I think it’s really important we don’t just talk to ourselves, we’ve got to hear what the country’s got to say.”

Gordon Brown has resigned as British Prime Minister in a statement just made in front of 10 Downing Street. If Nick Clegg is to get his way, there will be some form of electoral reform in the UK parliamentary system. This could pave the way for more European style coalition governments in the future with either AV or PR as opposed to FPTP we are more likely to see more parliaments that work on consensus rather than along party lines. So is this a good or a bad thing?
