I woke up this morning and the only thing that is clear in regards to the election is that the result is unclear. Although at this time the Conservatives are in the lead, they don’t yet have and are not predicted to have with 48 seats left to be declared the 326 seats they need to take power.
What is very clear however is that the LibDems have not been at all successful in translating popular support received as a result of the TV debates into actual votes. They look like they are going to end up with even less seats that they had in the previous parliament!
What is clear, is that the Cons have made all the gains at the expense of both Labour and Liberal Democrats. They have the largest number of votes and the largest number of seats, but are short of the majority needed to form the next government.
Hundreds of voters were turned away from the polling stations last night as they closed at 10pm. If you have a polling card, you are allowed to vote, however it would seem that queues outside polling booths, as turnout exceeded expectations in places like Hackney and Lewisham showed that perhaps voter apathy is not such a problem in this election.
