oops, someone’s spilled the milk0

Downing street yesterday shot down in flames Health Minister Anne Milton’s proposal to stop free milk for under 5′s. She said it’s an outdated policy with no proven health benefits, and given the cuts each department has to make, she wanted to stop the practice to save some dosh. He, or rather his people, said, we’re not scrapping free milk, it’s an institution no no we’re not stopping it!
So who’s tight and who’s wrong? Well given that the whole population seem to have bought into the fact that ‘we’ have to take the pain, then perhaps Anne Milton, after all if you have to cut, then somethings that seem unnecessary have to go don’t they? On the other hand, little kids from families that don’t feed them right probably get a great deal of nutrients from their daily glass, and are probably saving the NHS loads in otherwise payments to dentists to fix the little blighters rotten teeth.
The argument though as it was played out on telly in the news seems to be more about how the Government can’t control it’s policy, PM contradicting his own department heads and all that jazz. What do you think though? Should milk go or should it stay.
Personally I can’t stand the stuff, but for 40 years we’ve been told it’s good for building strong bones and healthy teeth. Health minister now says that’s all a load of rubbish? What say you…
