Oh dear, why areĀ government ministers getting themselves into very hot water over their expenses claims?
Yesterday, Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith pledged to pay back the money she ‘inadvertently’ claimed on her expenses for pay-per-view porn, ordered by her husband.
A little embarrassing, yes but are dodgy expenses claims just par for the course, by people who will probably soon be out of a job?
Home secretary Smith claims she didn’t realise she was claiming for pay-per-view TV when she put in her Internet service claim. Most people notice the difference in their cable bill, since it’s mostly a fixed amount every month. People who don’t notice how much they spend on services, probably don’t need the money I would argue. Does she have an assistant?
Think about your own situation, when people are told they are gonna get the sack, they lose interest in their job, and loyalty to their employers. There are those also who tend to begin siphoning off the stationary, and exaggerate their expenses, with the view of getting everything they can before the gravy train leaves the station.
Tony McNulty was berated for claiming second home allowance for a home he owns in his constituency in Harrow, whilst living only 9 miles down the road.Mr McNulty claims it is easier to work out of his Harrow home, to deal with constituency issues.
McNulty has been claiming the allowance since 2001, although he moved from the residence in 2002 when he got married. His conscience, it seems got the better of him and he stopped claiming the allowance in January 2009.
C’mon Tony, your constituency office is around the corner from your Harrow home, you live 9 miles away that’s less than an hours drive, but you still claim you needed it?
We would suggest ministers, MP’s get a bit more particular and pay attention. Everything you do is being scrutinised to the N’th degree
